I use Thunderbird as a POP server and keep some historic read emails in my inbox as well as archiving others to local folders. I am moving to a new windows 11 computer from an old windows 8 computer. So I exported my Thunderbird profile on the old computer, copied it across to the new computer, installed Thunderbird on it, then imported the profile. All my local folders are there with their historic emails, but there are no read emails in the inbox, only the unread ones ?? Be grateful for any explanation of why this is and how I get them back. thanks Martyn Jones

I currently have the following:

Mozilla Thunderbird version 152.0.1 (64-bit) installed on a Windows 11 Pro computer. Within this installation are five E-Mail accounts configured and working.

I have selected Export for Mobile.

For a week or two I haven't been able to send any email from Thunderbird. I use smtp.gmail.com as my outgoing server, and have it configured using SSL/TLS on port 465 with Oauth2 authentication. I first saw this on an older TB version, but have now updated to Thunderbird 152.0.1 on MacOS Sequoia 15.7.7.

When I try to send email, a dialog pops up saying "Enter credentials" for my account, then "Verify it's you". When I click on Next it asks me to "Complete sign-in using your passkey". I believe at this point another window is supposed to pop up and I can use a fingerprint to enter the passkey, but that window never pops up. I have tried 3 different default browsers: Firefox (my usual one), Google Chrome, and Safari. All behave the same. Firefox might be suppressing Javascript, but the other two certainly aren't.

Is there some system security setting that might be preventing Thunderbird from opening a window in the default browser, or does Thunderbird maintain its own record of the browser? Any other suggestions on how to get the passkey challenge to appear?

Considering migrating from Outlook to Thunderbird (TB), as it is a logical potential path. Best I can tell from AI input is placing my message store on a network share (colocated, stable network), would likely be unreliable. Said that TB storage format was basically fragile and subject to corruption if there was any kind of hiccup in the data transfer or if something happened during a power outage for example. Wanted to see how the real community felt about that and if it was indeed inadvisable to do so.

Thunderbird functions normally (sends/receives), except after Windows 11 goes to sleep, I log back in without difficulty., but attempting to use Thunderbird to send email fails with the message

"Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.mail.me.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. "

There's no prompt to re-enter the primary password, and the only way to restore normal Thunderbird operation is by rebooting WIN 11. Is this a known bug with a workaround? The failure occurs whether the outgoing server is smtp.mail.me.com (Apple), smtp.comcast.net, or smtp.gmail.com

I've just transferred my profile to a new computer, for which I downloaded TB152 (had been running TB128), and no add-ons/extensions work. Of course many were rendered inoperative with the update, but that's not the issue, because:

  1. Even those which claim to be compatible, or were updated since the transfer for the purpose of extension compatibility, do not work.
  2. Moreover, when I invoke the Add-ons Manager to inquire about the various non-working extensions, none of the links (which can be seen and read by the OS), can be invoked or even copied (to be, for example, pasted into a browser window).

I went through the standard [[Mozilla Support diagnostics|https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/hyperlinks-in-messages-not-working]] and found no answers. Can someone suggest a next step?

Trying to understand why this problem is related only to the extensions, I examined the profile's "extensions" folder. There are 40 .xpi files (same as the number of mostly-disabled (and mostly-expired) extensions in the Add-ons Manager), along with a subdirectory named "staged" containing 7 empty folders with what appear to be .xpi filenames - though none of those empty-folder-filenames match any of the .xpi files in the parent "extensions" folder. Because the "staged" folder has a recent timestamp (apparently the last time TB shut down), it seems to have some significance to TB operation - but what can be the use of it is more than I can see. What is the significance of that folder and its contents?

Two final (and possibly related) questions about this "extensions" folder:

  1. Is there any way to relate the <filename>.xpi to the name in the Add-ons Manager?
  2. Since nothing in the "extensions" folder identifies which are enabled, there must be some file containing a functional description of the folder's contents. Where would that be?

Grateful for any pointers, -John

Recover orphaned local tasks after deleting a local calendar (Thunderbird 152.0.1)

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me recover a local task calendar.

Environment Thunderbird 152.0.1 (aarch64) macOS Local Thunderbird calendar (not Google, Exchange, or CalDAV) What happened

Several months ago I deleted a local calendar because I believed I was no longer using it. Unfortunately, that calendar contained all of my Thunderbird tasks.

After deleting the calendar:

the local calendar disappeared from Thunderbird all of my tasks disappeared I have not created any new local tasks since then

What I have recovered

I have an older copy of my Thunderbird profile from before the deletion.

From that profile I have:

calendar-data/local.sqlite prefs.js

I inspected the SQLite database and confirmed that it contains 394 tasks.

The task records appear intact, including task metadata such as:

titles categories completion information recurrence tables alarm/snooze tables related Thunderbird calendar metadata

All of the recovered tasks belong to the same calendar ID:

8420c0c3-6b20-436c-a39b-d4183d2665e1

Current profile

My current profile contains only my two iCloud CalDAV calendars.

The deleted local calendar no longer appears in prefs.js.

Because of that, the task database appears to be orphaned.

What I have already tried Restoring the old local.sqlite Creating a new local calendar Exporting the tasks to ICS and importing them

Thunderbird reports:

"No importable items found in the file."

My question

Since the task records still exist in the original local.sqlite, is there a supported way to:

recreate the missing local calendar definition so Thunderbird recognizes the existing tasks, or migrate the orphaned tasks into a new local calendar?

If necessary, I'm happy to provide:

the recovered local.sqlite the current prefs.js any additional profile files

My goal is simply to recover the 394 tasks into my current Thunderbird profile without losing any data.

Thank you for any guidance.

Yahoo.com decided to be jerks and changed everything to get into our email. I was overseas at the time and got it taken care of for the laptop I was using on my trip. When I got back home I updated the rest of my computers to the new settings. However, this computer I am on, my secondary desktop, absolutely positively does NOT show Oauth as a choice for smtp on my Pacbell.net account which has to go through Yahoo.com. All the other server settings are working fine. I can get email, I just can't resply unless I go to my Netscape.net account which goes through AOL. It shows Oauth for AOL. The rest of the computers, and even a new laptop, all work just fine and all are on version 152.01. Even SeaMonkey email has Oauth for smtp but they have done a terrible job of keeping it updated that I can't use it for my Pacbell.net account because I can't enter the new password. Everything is a blank screen for log in and password entry. I am getting tired of having to reply to messages on my Pacbell.net account through the Netscape.net account. What can I do short of a clean reinstall of windows?

It's very odd. Normally moving an email, say from the Inbox to the relevant year's archive, takes "no time at all".

Which is true for all the mailboxes shown on the attached screenshot, EXCEPT for the four at the bottom. Moving even one message from Inbox to Yiddish can take ten seconds or longer (with the dreaded "Not Responding" occasionally). Moving something in the opposite direction is also screwy, only from those four.

I had thought that it was because they're rather large. This first started when there were just Yiddish and MSW, and I split off most of the earlier years into the archives shown. To no avail.

It's only an annoyance, but I'm puzzled about how such a thing could happen.

Also very slow tagging or untagging a message just in those mailboxes.

I've had a Thunderbird email account for years. My laptop quit, so I've set up the account on a new laptop. I discovered that I hadn't saved my Thunderbird password, so I followed the procedure for "forgot password". This included a new p/w, and I also got a Mozilla PIN (for future Microsoft Password Manager use), and got a Mozilla Account Recovery Key, again for future use. But I can't log into my Thunderbird account. I get the message "Authentication Error" (Wrong p/w, email, etc.) Changing IMAP / POP settings didn't help, though I did go with the recommended IMAP setting.

Any suggestions?

Good day, folks!

For over a week, the WIKI2 extension has not been working in Thunderbird (152.0.5 on Linux Mint). "Normal" operation (when it's working) is for a link clicked to a Wikipedia page to be automatically re-directed to the WIKI2 rendering of that page. This no longer happens.

Further, I receive this when trying to access their web site: Sorry, you have been blocked You are unable to access wiki2.org

Experience has taught me, when something that has been working flawlessly suddenly stops working, to ask, "Is it me, or is it you?" I'm not about to start twisting dials to fix a problem that is on their end.

Has anyone here experienced this same recent behavior with the WIKI2 extension?

If so, I'll leave it alone until the problem is fixed on their site.

Thanks in advance,

- Ralph

I need a way to change my password in Thunderbird. I cannot sign in with the password I have used for several years, due to the fact that my hard disk had to be completely revamped, which also resulted in numerous files being erased. Apparently, this included my Thunderbird password. Unfortunately, the Thunderbird software does not (yet) make provisions for changing a password. I doubt that I am the only user who would welcome this possibility. I know for a fact that numerous other software programs find ways to enable a change of passwords.

I have changed the website hosting company from my previous one to scalahosting.com, which in turn appears to be using grok.viawebhost.com as their mailserver.

I was a user of Eudora 7.1 for many years, but because of this change of hosting company, the Eudora email program would not connect to the Scalahosting site.

Thus I was forced to change to Thunderbird. After reading several webposting on this matter, I found and uploaded V17.0.9 and proceeded to convert the Eudora email, filters and addresses to the Thunderbird format.

This was not an easy task, and even with Google's AI assistance, I had to restart several times, but as of today - mid-Jun I have now completed the task of cleaning up all the email, installing the correct headers, etc that allows the Thunderbird program to open and correctly display all of those email without any problems.

I further cleaned up and corrected all of the Eudora filters to the TB format and now have those filters in TB to be able to be installed and correctly are accepted by the TB program.

Like wise with the contact addressee that were in the Eudora NNdbase.nnt file were cleaned up and correctly installed in the TB program.

However, the current status of the TB program is that it does not seem to be able to connect to the Scala Webhosting email site at grok.viawebhost.com. Enclosed is a pic of the supposed correct set up for the STMP at Port 465.

The other Port info from Scala is: POP3 - 995 (SSL) IMAP - 993 (SSL)

But I am not sure what else I need to do to correctly set up this older version so that I can start the collection process of the most recent emails sitting in the mailserver.

Further, it was suggested that I need to update the TB V17.0.9 to the most recent V151 by following the below sequence of updates:

According to Mozilla Support Documentation, this is the exact, official sequence to migrate safely from a legacy version:

Step 1: Run V24.8.0 (32-bit) (This updates the raw database schema out of V17. Upgrades the raw Mbox structures.)

Step 2: Run V45.8.0 (32-bit) (Stabilizes the folder indexing schema.)

Step 3: Run V52.9.1 (32-bit) (The final 32-bit staging version.60.9.1 (64-bit). Migrates the architecture to 64-bit processing.)

Step 4: Run V60.9.1 (This is the critical gatekeeper version required to unlock modern automatic profile conversion).

Step 5: Run V78.14 (This shifts the mail indexing formats).

Step 6: Run V102.15.1 (This modernizes the folder structure configurations).

Step 7: Final jump to V151.0.1 (Updates the background engine to current web standards).

I am looking any advice or suggestions from the Community that can assist me in completing this conversion to the TB program and get it fully functional so I can connect to the Scala Hosting mailserver.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

Really weird problem with a friends thunderbird setup.

All of a sudden my friend was unable to get here emails. It kept saying the password was incorrect. Of course she didn't know her password but it was saved in Fire fox. Found the password and verified her centurytel webmail works. So put it in Thunderbird and still give me an error. I then decided to install Thunderbird on my personal laptop and everything works fine. So I decide to do a clean install, deleted all profile folders and everything. Reinstall Thunder bird and get an "Authentication error". I tried disable all her firewalls on her computer (Windows 11) and disabling the firewalls on the router/modem itself. It still doesn't work. I think next thing I will try is my laptop that has thunderbird installed with her email account.

Any other ideas?
